I've been thinking a lot about Crimea lately (understandable, right?), but I have no more photos from there. Nothing more to discover. Except I guess in that underwater disposable camera that's been in my fridge for half a year because I can't seem to bring it in for developing with unexposed frames in it. Anyway. Here's some stuff from Russia that I don't know what else to do with, but that's kind of meaningful in that it was (mostly) all one-off stuff with a specific motivation.

The name for this as it sat in my drafts folder was "Photos To Do Stuff With."

[yellow cafeteria]

The cafeteria at our department of the university got God-awful crowded during lunch time (made worse by the Russians' fear of anything they owned touching the ground and subsequent monopolization of any available chair to rest a purse or duffel on), and was really only worth going to if you had free time outside of lunch hour. The sign on the right promises money, freedom, and growth if you go work at Carl's Jr.

[at the aquarium]

A bunch of people I don't know and one I do in a shitty aquarium in Petersburg.

[first sunshine cabinet selfie]

I remember taking this photo because I was ecstatic that there was actual sunshine.

[overgraphed cathedral, sunset-lit

I think this was the day it was freezing and I was out photographing because the sun was doing the long, red sunset thing. I'd pull my gloves off to take a shot and by the time I'd set everything and snapped a picture my hands were numb. It was ridiculous. I guess I'm slow, but it was also crazy cold.

[walk from veteranov, frozen & sunlit]

[shiny double-dome selfies]

[sliver moon between trees]

By this point I was late to class every day. After the winter and five (six?) years of school I was drained of concern for most things and especially punctuality. So of course I was going to stop and photograph the fingernail moon between the trees. It was right around this time that I started getting giddy for the arrival of spring. Clear skies made it colder than it'd been in winter so the American students looked at me like I was crazy. But I'll continue to think that it was spring I was sensing spring in that bitingly cold air.

[holga goom shapes]

Aaaand a random HOLGA shot from Moscow. Enjoy.
